What is the point of alimony?

ive never seen the point of alimony. if you divorce the person that person is NO LONGER your responsibility.. Who gives a damn if they can eat or have a place to stay.. not your problem. Why does the man in most cases have to pay her way to live cause she ain't in love anymore? th law states you must provide her the standard of living shes accustomed to.. what about the man? she lives in LUX while he has to live in a cardboard box eating pb and j so she can LIVE in a house screw another man and eat? GTFOH. my bf used to pay his ex ***** 406 a week and he brought home 500 a week.. wow poor guys living off of 400 a month. and shes living in a high dollar apt.. the law is corrupt. they dont give a crap about anyone but the money they can get out of it.A lot of ppl will agree with me when i say they should get rid of it. child Support yes i understand i pay my dues every week but alimony is a bunch of ****. if i got divorced i wouldn't want it. id support myself the way it should be. OJ simpson for example. paying his ex thousands of dollars a month for alimony and a mortgage on a house he doesn't live in. so hes paying for a house her new man was living in paying for her new mans food and paid for her new mans car.. hmm im not saying he should have killed her.. im just saying I UNDERSTAND!
