What's more important, grades or connections?

I'm currently a high school student interested in becoming a dentist. I have yet applied to college, but I am interested in Ivy League schools. My grades are good, but I've recently heard that it's "who you know" that gets you into Ivy League schools and good dental schools. I'm in a crossroads. please help.
